Oh yes, it has been a LONGGGGG time since I blogged. Honestly, blogging isn't my favorite thing to do, but now that blogger has updated their downloading and other features (they probably changed this like a year ago), I think I could tolerate it more.
In July we embarked on painting the first room in our new house. The house is a brand new, spec house, so every wall in the house is (was) painted the exact same color: a grayish-beige color. It is a tolerable color and I actually like it and will probably keep it for a while in a few rooms (mostly because I loathe painting).
Of course, a girl's room can't be gray (or grayish). So, we asked our gal what color she wanted (involving her in the decision-very important for almost 4 year olds). I thought maybe she would want light purple and green like her old room in Minnesota. But nope. She wanted her favorite colors: orange and yellow.
Ok, a big challenge for mommy and daddy. We brought home some paint swatches mostly light yellows and oranges and just a few darker/brighter oranges and yellows. Mommy and daddy liked the lighter colors, but of course Julia chose the dark, basketball-orange and bright yellow. Wanting to value her decision, we said, ok-we paint what she wants. Of course there were other requests for princess on the walls, flowers, a canopy over her bed, but you will see those later below.
So, we embarked on painting the room...

Oh, yes, it is BRIGHT yellow! At first we almost wore sunglasses when we were painting because it was so bright (ya gotta wear shades..had to say that). AND she got her canopy (requested to be pink).
The decal on the wall is a cherry tree branch with pink leaves falling. The bubble gum machine is actually from my childhood. It was red, but I spray painted it a raspberry pink.
Like the little planter of flowers? Pinterst can make anyone crafty; even those of us who have no time. It was super easy: 1 planter box (on clearance for end of summer), 1 can of pink spray paint, gem wall decals, and lots of silk flowers. I was going to mount it under the window, but it looked better on the floor not blocking the window view.
Where's the orange you ask? Well, since the color she picked was SO orange, we painted the interior of the closet with the orange. We couldn't figure out a way to mingle the yellow she picked and the orange. We thought about alternating walls, but came to the conclusion it would be too much. She loves the orange and loves going in her orange closet.
The princess decals came next along with a cute flower light from IKEA (miss having that store so close to me!)

Still need to get some color coordinating bedding, but all in all, it turned out pretty well. It is a huge, bright clash of colors, but the most important thing is that this little person LOVES it:
